You know he had to do it to 'em; or, how to unlock Chaos in Dissidia 012 [duodecim] without ripping your hair out

I've been having some weird dreams lately, what with the stress of deciding what to move back to my parents' house now and what to save for closer to the end of my lease. As a result, I've been feeling emotionally attached to the character Chaos from Dissidia 012 [duodecim] for reasons unknown. Unfortunately, although his "feral" form is playable, his "normal" form is only selectable as an opponent; he can't be controlled by the player.
+Or can he?
+According to The Cutting Room Floor, cheat codes exist to make him playable, albeit with some glitches both in the gameplay and graphical departments. Unfortunately, that wiki page also has one of my largest pet peeves online: they showed me something cool, but didn't tell me how to actually do it. They embedded a YouTube video showing gameplay footage, but the description of that video doesn't have the cheat codes either.
+But the video does mention the name of the cheat creator: "Osmund Neuron". Searching for that name brings up a promising thread on GBATemp, "PSP Mods by Osmund Neuron [Merged]", but none of the codes in that thread are for either the original Dissidia or its prequel/sequel/remake. I found his YouTube channel, but that didn't have any (obvious) links either. After a while of searching, frustrated by the number of sites in French I had to take the trouble of translating only to find no actual download links or usable codes, on a different person's video I finally found the full set of codes.
+I happily pasted them into my ULUS10566.ini
in PPSSPP's "Cheats" folder (found next to "GAME", "SAVEDATA", "SYSTEM", etc.) and restarted PPSSPP. I made sure all the cheats were enabled. And...
...there were no new characters to select.
+Thinking maybe I'd done something wrong, I checked the page I'd gotten the codes from, along with the YouTube video that had directed me there:
+To use these cheats on psp follow the following steps: +++
+- in game hold select, go into cheats and enable cheats.
+- to change form go to the accessories or equipment and change the sets. Sets A,B and C are his forms. you cannot change his equipment.
+- to use his moves push buttons.
+- most importantly enjoy.
+
Step 1 isn't relevant because I'm handling cheats through PPSSPP, not a custom firmware on a physical PSP. I thought maybe at first Step 2 was saying that Chaos was accessible through changing Feral Chaos' accessory/equipment sets, so I tried that, but that didn't work. And Step 3? Really? Really?
+Frustrated, on the character select screen, I cycled through every character, thinking maybe Chaos would show up as over another character, kind of like how Super Smash Bros. series modders often completely replace a character with a different one, CSPs and nameplates and all... and I found him on the "random character" button. Makes sense, I suppose.
+So for anyone else who's stuck wading through old forum posts from over a decade ago, here's how you get Chaos playable easy-peasy:
+-
+
- Download my copy of
ULUS10566.ini
and put it in your PPSSPP cheats folder. (I'm not going to bother correcting the misspellings in the cheat file. That's how it came.)
+ - Start PPSSPP. Go into settings and make sure cheats are enabled. (In the INI file, the specific ones you need are already turned on; this step is to turn on cheats altogether in the emulator.) +
- Start the game. (The USA version! Good luck finding the correct codes if you're playing the European version.) Start either a labyrinth run or a normal battle. On the character select screen, pick the question mark. +
Even though you can't edit his movesets, you can choose which of his three movesets from the final boss fight he uses. It turns out this is what Step 2 (from the YouTube video above) was trying to tell me. Mister YouTube's instructions still suck, though, so here's a rewrite:
+-
+
- Start a one-on-one battle and go through the character and computer player select screens. +
- On the screen where you select the stage and difficulty, press Triangle (or whatever you have mapped to Triangle). +
- Press Select, then pick either Set A, B, or C. +
- Go back to the stage select screen and start the battle as normal. +
This only seems to work in battle mode. I haven't gotten this to work in labyrinth mode yet. I'll update this page if that changes.
+Quick caveat(s):
+-
+
- Chaos has an absurdly high level, which will either display as 0, 1,
???
, or 255 depending on which part of the game you're in. I'd suggest turning on "EXP to HP" since he won't get any stronger, but, you know... you can't edit his moveset...
+ - If you try to edit Chaos' moveset, you WILL softlock the game because it won't allow you to leave that menu without setting at least one move... which you can't do because none of his moves will appear as selectable. +
- Your opponent's HP bar will be invisible. The EX and assist gauges seem to be invisible too. +
Quick trigger warning: his victory animation has the camera zoomed in on his buttcrack and (lack of) dick. No, I don't know why. No, I don't know how to fix it.
+TL;DR in video form (SEIZURE WARNING):
+Have fun! I'm going to go convince my mom to not buy forty chickens for her microfarm now...
